Chico for Mayor

Gery’s Values

Gery is a lifelong Democrat who believes in equality, equity, and creating opportunity for Chicagoans across our city.

Gay Rights

In his 2004 U.S. Senate race, he was the only candidate to support same-sex marriage among all of his opponents. Supporting gay rights wasn’t popular, but Gery thought it was the right thing to do, and he didn’t let politics get in the way.

Gery is a strong supporter of immigrant and refugee rights. He will uphold Chicago’s status as a sanctuary city and will work to make sure that undocumented immigrants are treated as human beings and have access to education, healthcare, and can find jobs in our city.

Women’s Rights

Gery has always championed the rights of women. He also believes that women deserve equal pay for equal work, paid family leave, and the ability to work in an environment free of harassment of any kind. As Mayor, Gery will adopt a zero-tolerance policy for workplace harassment and other gender-based misconduct.

Gery has always supported a woman’s right to choose and to have access to reproductive healthcare and safe and affordable birth control no matter where in the city she may live. He was instrumental in bringing Planned Parenthood into Chicago Public Schools in the 1990’s.

Workers’ Rights

Gery was a leader in ensuring that members of organized labor had jobs produced by government spending and was one of the earliest supporters of Project Labor Agreements.

He supports the Fight for $15 minimum wage campaign and will make sure Chicago achieves that goal. People cannot live off of less, especially if they are raising a family.
